Mistakes that occur while storing cat food

How to deal with dry food for cats immediately after purchasing it and until it reaches your home can make a big difference in the quality of the food provided to your cat.

You may think that dry food retains all its properties under various conditions, but this is wrong, as there are many factors in food storage that may affect its quality.

Dried food is an artificial compound of different substances that are important elements for your cat’s health. Failure to pay attention to this fact may expose your cat to danger, because these elements may interact with the surrounding environment and may become rotten or their properties may change, rendering them useless.

Of course, now you want to know about common storage mistakes, so here are five mistakes you don't want to make to keep your cat healthy:

1- Do not throw away the original packaging:

Our high-quality cat food bags are designed to lock in nutrients and keep it fresh for as long as possible.

Preserving a bag of cat food also has the added benefit of preserving the dry food ingredients, expiration date, and operating code – all important information to keep, especially in the event of a food recall.

You may need to read more about the ingredients of the food given to your cat, and you may want to check the expiration date or the appropriate amounts of food for your cat.

Therefore, try to keep the bags designated for dry food so that you can benefit from the advice and instructions on them.

2- Do not expose cat food to the air:

Closing the food bag after opening it to eat helps prevent exposure to air and moisture, both of which accelerate the rate of spoilage of pet food and increase the risk of bacterial contamination with various germs such as salmonella.

Make sure that the dry food package is tightly closed, and do not underestimate this step. Also, in the absence of the package, you must keep the dry food in a tightly sealed container away from light and moisture.

3- Do not expose cat food to sunlight:

Exposing a bag of cat food to sunlight can raise the temperature and humidity inside. This will also lead to rapid spoilage of food and increase the risk of contamination with salmonella as well as other bacteria.

Light can also lead to various reactions that occur to the food, or perhaps interactions between the food and the package if it is not intended for storage.

Therefore, keep the dry food container away from light as much as possible, and never expose it to direct sunlight.

4- Do not keep cat food after the expiration date:

Cat food expiration dates are set to ensure the safety of your cat. Do not risk feeding your cat expired food, and check the expiration date before purchasing.

You must also know the time at which you will consume the amount of food. If its expiration date is low or the expiration date is approaching, it is preferable not to buy it.

5- Do not mix old cat food with new:

After running out of dry food or “dry cat food,” you may have to transfer the last amount of cat food from an old package to a new package.

But we advise you never to do that!!.. because there may have been some bacteria or fungi in the old package, and by mixing old food with new food, you are transferring these bacteria to the new food, so it is always preferable not to mix old dry food with new food.
