What is gastritis in cats?
Gastritis is defined as inflammation of the stomach lining. Gastritis in cats can be acute (brief and immediate, less than one week in duration) or chronic (lasting more than one to two weeks).
Any cat of any breed, age or gender can develop gastritis. Younger cats are more likely to eat inappropriate foods or different foods, and are therefore more likely to develop acute gastritis.
Acute gastritis often resolves on its own or responds to mild treatment. Chronic gastritis can be very serious or even fatal in some cases.
Symptoms of gastritis in cats:

Vomiting (with or without blood)
Decreased/absence of appetite
Idleness
drought
Dark, tarry stool (melena)
Diarrhea and/or weight loss
Causes of gastritis in cats:
Gastritis can be a primary or secondary condition. This means it can occur on its own or be secondary to other systemic diseases, such as liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or neurological diseases.
The most common cause of acute gastritis in cats is malnutrition (eating new food or other items that causes inflammation of the stomach lining). Acute gastritis can also be caused by:
Drug interactions
Ingestion of toxins, including plants, spoiled or toxic foods, antifreeze, and cleaning supplies
Infection (bacterial, viral, or parasitic)
Overeating
Swallowing foreign bodies
Chronic gastritis can be caused by:
Pancreatitis
Chronic presence of foreign bodies in the stomach, causing partial obstruction of the excretory duct
Gastrointestinal tumors (benign or cancerous)
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
Stomach ulcer
Other systemic diseases (such as liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or neurological disease)
Treatment of gastritis in cats:
Non-medical treatment for gastritis involves abstaining from eating any food for 8 to 12 hours after the last bout of vomiting to allow the stomach to settle. Typically, small amounts of water are offered for the first 12 to 24 hours, then abstaining from food for 8 to 12 hours and eating small amounts of a bland (easy-to-digest, low-fat) diet several times throughout the day.
If your cat continues to vomit during non-medical treatment, you will need to schedule a visit with your veterinarian. If your cat cannot keep down water and continues to vomit only when drinking, contact your vet immediately. We have also designated for your pest from the seventh bird:
